Stencils and slogans (Athens, Greece)

from Contra info:

Freiheit Für Marco Camenisch

On Tuesday, August 7th, we painted slogans and stencils as part of the ten days of action against repression. We chose to highlight, as much as possible, two different cases and show our solidarity by means available to us.

We made the first series of stencils and slogans in solidarity with anarchist Marco Camenisch, who is incarcerated for 20 years because of his eco-anarchist actions and subversive stance. It is obvious that the prosecuting authorities, across Europe, consider Marco Camenisch as a permanent threat to the system of domination, so they try to keep him in prison in every way they got, despite the fact that he has now served 2/3 of his prison sentence and therefore is entitled to be released. His name’s involvement in the repressive ‘operation boldness’ that was recently launched by the Italian Inquisitors is yet another attempt to keep him captive for life. As Marco announced through a recent letter from the Swiss dungeon, he plans to begin a hunger strike in late August, in order to denounce the special regime in prisons and the fiasco of the latest informal prosecution against him. We send him all our strength and cry out FREEDOM FOR MARCO CAMENISCH!

Solidarity with Grand Jury Resisters-USA

The second thematic concerns the call for actions in solidarity with those who resist the Grand Jury proceedings in the United States. The Grand Jury is an institution of the federal legal system of the US, having the jurisdiction to indict or not individuals suspected of involvement in ‘organized crime’. Essentially, this is a special inquisitorial body of citizens/jurors (who are not even screened for bias) that investigate the activities of political adversaries of the US democracy, working in complete privacy/secrecy (obeying the will of the federal prosecutor/US attorney). Thus, the grand juries also comprise a first stage towards indictment charges in accordance with the anti-terrorism legislation.

Since early August, anarchist comrades and activists have been subpoenaed to testify before the Grand Jury under a repressive operation against the radical space in the Pacific Northwest. Those who resist grand juries, by refusing to cooperate with the authorities and to provide evidence or testimony to this legal body, are threatened with pretrial detention up to 18 months or until the Grand Jury decides whether they will be brought to trial.

Solidarity with the Grand Jury Resisters-USA

Direct actions in solidarity with Grand Jury resisters have already taken place inSt. LouisAtlantaNew YorkOaklandSan FranciscoSeattle and elsewhere, while events for financial aid are on the way. We believe that the international anarchist movement has a responsibility to support comrades who do not cooperate with the US prosecuting authorities, the FBI and the joint terrorism task forces, so we tried to make the issue known here, too, with this small symbolic action. From the 24th to the 30th of August, solidarity groups are calling for a week of joint actions in as many places as possible, given that the next meeting of the Grand jury is scheduled for August 30th in Seattle.

Stop Talking

A note about spelling: a “resistor” is an electrical component which impedes a current, whereas a “resister” is a person who resists, in this case a grand jury.

Banner drop (East Vancouver, BC)

From Vancouver Media Coop:

Vancouver, BC – “Solidarity with anarchists under the gun – Fuck the law”

On the morning of Friday August 10th, 2012 (prisoner justice day) we dropped a banner from the roof of the building next to a probation office on Commercial Drive. The banner read “Solidarity With anarchists Under the Gun – Fuck the Law”. We did this in solidarity with anarchists facing repression all over, and most specifically with our comrades south of the border facing raids and grand jury repression.

In addition, posters were also put up throughout the Eastside expressing solidarity with comrades all over the map. On the posters there was an image of a white rose which traditionally (in the European sense) is a symbol for silence! Don’t snitch! No one talks, everyone walks!

Also freedom to Kelly Pflug-Back! Freedom to all prisoners whether they want to be labeled political or not! Fuck the Police!

When the banner was dropped on Commercial Drive, confetti and leaflets were thrown, explaining and exclaiming the action, below is the text from the leaflet.

Solidarity with Grand Jury resisters in the North West

On Wednesday July 25th, the FBI conducted a series of coordinated raids against anarchists in Portland, Olympia, and Seattle. They subpoenaed several people to a special federal grand jury, and seized computers, black clothing and anarchist literature. The people subpoenaed have issued a clear statement about their refusal to collaborate with the grand jury.

Vancouver, BC – Solidarity with anarchists under the gun leaflet

What is a grand jury? Officially, a grand jury is used by the US state to decide on whether there’s enough evidence to charge someone with a felony crime. It’s also a tool that the state uses to try to destroy social struggles. When a person is subpoenaed, they have to appear at a secretive grand jury hearing, which defies even basic legal norms – there’s no judge present, the prosecutor runs the proceedings, the person isn’t allowed to have their lawyer in the room, and the prosecutor can ask them a wide range of questions about what their politics are or who they’re friends with, that would normally not even be relevant in court. The most significant thing about grand juries is that they can imprison someone, on the spot, for up to 18 months for refusing to talk. It is essentially a way the state tries to force people to snitch.

Whether in the northwest of the US or here in ‘Canada’, authorities are conducting a political witch-hunt against anarchists and others working toward a more just, free, and equal society. The warrants served specifically listed anarchist literature as evidence to be seized, pointing to the fact that the FBI and police are targeting this group of people because of their political ideas. During a time of growing economic and ecological crises that are broadly affecting people across the world, it is an attempt to push back any movement towards creating a world without bosses, prisons or police, one that meets every person’s needs rather than serving only the interests of the rich.

Closer to home, we can see this sort of repression with the federal government trying to pass increasingly harsher laws like the federal anti-mask law, which will be used to sentence people to up to ten years in prison simply for wearing a mask at a demo to protect themselves from the police, or in the construction of many new prisons. This can also be seen in in the repression faced by people in the aftermath of the G20 protests against the meeting of the rich and powerful, with people getting sentenced to prison for the ‘conspiracy’ of engaging in social struggle against the state. Another example is the repression happening against people fighting the government’s plan (and, more broadly, the government itself) to raise tuition fees: there have been over 2000 arrests since the start of the strike, multiple demonstrators seriously injured by police (comas, losing an eye), and several hundred people facing criminal charges and restrictive conditions like being banned from the city they live in, curfews, non-association with friends, and perimeters that they cannot enter. Law 78 – a law making most demos illegal – is only the newest form of repression.

August 10th also marks Prisoner Justice Day, which originally began when prisoners went on strike in solidarity with a fellow prisoner who died while in custody. With this in mind, lets be clear – our struggle isn’t just about better laws, or getting the police to even follow their own laws. No amount of legal reform, or of official politicking, is going to get rid of our disgust at a society that locks others in cages, a society that guts our forests as it enslaves all our time for the production of commodities. As our struggles against the state and capital intensify and spread, as we start to take back our own lives that have been stolen from us, whether through prison or the monotony of wage slavery, the state will try to break us. Lets breaks its back before it can break ours.

Solidarity with the comrades in the pacific northwest facing grand jury repression, and with everyone anywhere fighting for freedom.
Fuck the Law!

I Tell Em, Slow Down, You Know You Can’t Catch Me

This anonymous letter is reposted from PSA:

I would like to start by saying that I send nothing but love and unbreakable solidarity to my alleged subpoenaed non-cooperating comrades, especially Leah. Whether we called each other friends in the past or have never even met, through this experience our struggle is even more connected.

About two weeks ago I received some information that led me to believe that the FBI was searching for me in order to serve a subpoena. While in all actuality, and in the eyes of the court, this is nothing more than someone playing a cruel joke on me, I remain very startled. So startled, that I decided I should get out of town for a while, to a place where I would feel more safe. Luckily, I have more than enough support from my friends and loved ones to make this situation bearable. I want to thank all the comrades and friends who have helped through the beginning of this rough situation. Whether they be on the West Coast, East Coast, or anywhere else in the world.

My hesitation at even the thought of participating in Grand Jury does not have anything to do with “rights” or “justice”. While yes, technically a Grand Jury would be a violation of my civil rights, I do not want spend time on getting caught up on words that have such little meaning to me. I have no desire to view myself as a victim, or someones whose rights have been violated. Instead, I understand that the state views myself and my comrades as enemies, and they will do whatever they can to stifle our struggle, providing they can get away with it. The gathering of this Grand Jury is not surprising or unexpected, but that does not make it hurt any less. I completely understand that others in a similar situation want to exercise their rights to be kept out of prison, and I will absolutely stand by whatever the other allegedly subpoenaed comrades chose to do. Different people chose to resist in different ways and this is fine, as long as everyone remains non-cooperating I see no problem with any decisions that my comrades would make.

It is clear that the State is trying to send us a message, and may they hear our response. Our passion for freedom is stronger than their prisons! But our passion for each other is stronger than any feeling the vultures of the State will ever know! I am so happy to see how much support there has already been in response to this event! Much love to Seattle, Bloomington, The Bay, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Atlanta, and any other place I forgot, your actions and words make this experience a whole lot easier. All the material, emotional, and monetary support I have also received means the world to me, and I’m very thankful to have such great friends and comrades. It has been a wonderful experience getting to know new people on this journey thus far. But each time I’m introduced to someone, it’s very hard to not think of all those friends who I will not see for a long time. I imagine this is going to get easier with time. At the very rare chance that I am actually being subpoenaed this Grand Jury, I could not find myself in a better situation. I have the support and love from my friends, the feeling of safety, and the unbreakable solidarity that I share with my comrades. To quote a famous contemporary poet. “Tryna keep up wit me, but it’s nothing to me.”

I love you all and hopefully I will be seeing you soon.

Long live Anarchy!

The Quiet Coyote Cash Out: raise funds for grand jury resisters!

See the Donate page.

In light of the recent subpoenas issued in the Pacific Northwest, we, The Quiet Coyote Cash Out, are extending support and standing behind our comrades who are facing the recent trouble brought on by the FBI. The Quiet Coyote Cash Out will be pooling money for our comrades by means of donations and benefits. These funds will be separate from legal support and commissary (which is still important and necessary), The purpose of this fund is for the aftermath of those who remain non-cooperating and who serve time for doing so.
On August 2nd, comrades faced a grand jury and refused to feed into the investigation that is taking place by those who ultimately seek to imprison our friends and loved ones. Subpoenas have now been issued for a later date and we expect this is far from over. For as long as those subpoenaed are resisting, a judge can hold them in contempt for a maximum of 18 months, or until the grand jury completes its term, whichever comes first. During this grand jury, jail time will be expected for friends which will cause stress and separation from those they love. Time that cannot be replaced will be taken from them. Plans, goals, and responsibilities will be put off. With this in mind, we recognize that we have the ability to decrease the tailspin for our friends and support them through these moments.
This money will be directly placed into the hands of our comrades —those who do not cooperate— when they are released from jail. The money is to be used for anything that they please. Although money will never truly compensate them for the time they will likely lose, we want to show them that we recognize that their incarceration is a consequence of their strength and will. We see their refusal to play jester in the house of Justice as a beautiful refusal. In this scenario, silence is a testament to their power. We can only hope that the money we raise helps alleviate the inherent stress and worry that being forcibly isolated brings, making the transition from a cell to the open air a bit easier.

A call for solidarity action

reposted from PSA:

Grand juries and the repression surrounding them are focused specifically on isolation in an attempt to strike fear into the hearts of anarchists and all those associated with them. Whether you are close to those involved in the recent wave of Pacific Northwest anarchist repression or not, its impact has most likely touched your region.

In an attempt to counter that fear and isolation the days of August 24th to August 31st are being called as a week of solidarity with anarchists in the Pacific Northwest. Lets turn that fear back toward our common enemies and drive the impact of their repression into expressions of solidarity. Consider acting in ways that communicate the passion for freedom that those in the Northwest have continued to express by their refusal to cooperate with the State’s witch hunt.

Remember that the next grand jury hearing is on Thursday August 30th at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Seattle. If you live in the area, please come to the Courthouse on 700 Stewart St. at 12noon for a demonstration outside. If you live outside the area, consider planning a solidarity demonstration in your city or an event about grand jury resistance.

May their attempts at repression only make our aim stronger!

Two ATMs attacked (St. Louis, MO)

Reposted from AnarchistNews

Late Sunday night, two ATMs in St. Louis were disabled in solidarity with those facing Grand Juries in the Northwest. We wanted to do more, but it’s hard to find an ATM in this city.
As long as our comrades face repression, the attacks will continue. Back off!

love for our comrades, hatred for the feds,
some anarchists
